CTA's and its subcommittees establish standards and guidelines for all CTA network standardization efforts involving communications between, to, or from consumer electronics devices. R7 also provides coordination for, and encourages cooperation among, all standards development efforts for communications that pass over a home network/system, or communications between, to, or from consumer electronic devices. All are encouraged to join the Consumer Electronics Networking Committee and get involved in its activities. The Consumer Electronics Networking Committee is particularly interested in adding new members who acquire home networking products from those who create them (called "users").

This specification applies to a communication protocol for networked control systems. The protocol provides peer-to-peer communication for networked control and is suitable for implementing both peer-to-peer and primary-secondary control strategies.
