Company Name: BuildWithin
Member Apprentice: Drew Shea

What motivated you to participate in an apprenticeship program?

I studied Hospitality for a few years and realized it was not the right fit for me. I was exposed to technology through a couple of internships and I knew that I wanted to pursue tech. I was struggling to break into technology and stumbled upon BuildWithin’s apprenticeship program. I was really lucky that BuildWithin was offering an apprenticeship in product management which remains my main focus.

What has been the biggest surprise so far?

There is so much to learn in technology and I have been really appreciative that this opportunity has allowed me the chance to grow in many ways. Each day has brought lessons in technology, teamwork, navigating a corporate environment, developing my confidence and presence. Every day is a new opportunity to soak up new knowledge!

What advice would you give tech companies about why they should hire apprentices?

Apprenticeships offer companies the opportunity to take a chance on an individual who is hungry to learn and excited to contribute to your company. It is the best way to grow your talent pipeline with diverse individuals who build a relationship with the company during their time as an apprentice and contribute in impactful ways.

What is the status of your apprenticeship?

I completed my apprenticeship in October 2023 and received an offer to stay and continue to grow at BuildWithin! Technology is constantly evolving and being in a startup allows us to be at the forefront of cutting-edge technology.

What is your advice to companies who are starting the model?

I would recommend taking the chance on an apprentice. Apprenticeships are easy to set up and if your company has an internship program or upskilling program this is a great way to grow your talent pool within your company.
