Today, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) announced its complete library of industry standards is now available for free on
CTA.tech. CTA's library features standards covering key aspects of the consumer tech industry including audio, video, health, fitness, wellness, networking, energy management, custom installation, drones and wireless power.
"CTA is pleased to make our library of standards easily accessible for everyone," said Veronica Lancaster, senior director, technology & standards, CTA. "With over 1,200 active participants, our program creates the blueprints behind many of our favorite tech products. Now, manufacturers and consumers alike can better understand the ways in which our favorite products communicate, measure activities or simply how these devices work."
The free library provides transparency and insight on standards used throughout the industry, from closed captioning and sending uncompressed digital television signals over high-speed digital interfaces, to recent standards that improve the accuracy and reliability of health and fitness technology, such as
sleep tracking and
heart rate monitoring devices.
The announcement capped an event-filled week for the more than 160 industry professionals attending the CTA Technology & Standards Forum in Santa Clara. Earlier today, Steve Koenig, vice president of market research, CTA, presented on the technologies and trends seen at CES 2018 including artificial intelligence, consumer robotics, AR/VR and next-gen displays.
Other Forum highlights include:
- Publication of CTA-2065, a standard to improve the accuracy of measuring heart rate in consumer tech devices.
- Discussions on cybersecurity and how the tech industry is addressing rising concerns with coordinated efforts between industry and government.
- Discussions on the impact of artificial intelligence and its potential to transform and benefit industries across the world, and how businesses can adapt.
- Educational sessions on the future of wearables, the role of consumer tech in healthcare and VR's role in surgical training.
A meeting of CTA's Health & Fitness Technology Subcommittee, which develops standards improving the functionality of health and fitness technology and devices, was also held this week. Additional CTA committee meetings throughout the week focused on AR/VR, audio, video, wellness, cybersecurity, networking and other standards activities.
