Test Procedure for Powerline Carrier Technology (CTA-2002-A R-2019)

Just about every home has electrical wiring in it. The wires that carry electricity to your outlets, lights and appliances are usually inside the walls of your home. For people who want two devices to communicate over a wired connection instead of a wireless one, powerline carrier technology is an attractive option. Systems based on this technology are easy to set up, and they’re inconspicuous because they send communications signals over the powerlines already installed in a home. With a powerline carrier system, a device plugged into one outlet can communicate with a device plugged into another outlet anywhere in the house. CTA-2002-A describes how makers of powerline carrier systems can test their products in a standardized way to confirm they will work under a wide variety of installation conditions.
