CTA Urges a Full Vetting on FOSTA and SESTA

The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA), regarding the House vote on the amended Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA):

"Although FOSTA and SESTA are a well-intended response to the horrific crime of sex trafficking, the amended bill should not be voted on by the House until the House Judiciary Committee has thoroughly reviewed it. This is highly complex legislation with significant legal implications. Deviating from regular order to rush through this bill on an artificial timetable without review could inadvertently harm lawful American entrepreneurs, small businesses and our world-leading internet economy. We urge the House to return to regular order and give this legislation the scrutiny that it requires."
